BREATHING FOAM (working concept model)

Being captured by a chair. Embraced by a pressuring softness. Until you are released.

Breathing, imagine, closing, intimidating, growing, almost touch, moving, embracing, trapping, soft, scaring ...

Imagine a world full of life. Buildings live and interact on personal level. You have to care and take care of your office, your house, your street. A wall that grabs you on a way that could feel aggressive, pressuring. You can fight it but you can’t win. If you give in if might start feeling nice. An embrace of pressuring softness. A hug to give you comfort and support. Better let it go and enjoy the moment of physical touch. Trust and relax and wait until you are released.

This project is a physical translation of intimidating. The chair is a model that shows the concept and is the step before the animating wall. Animation without inner structure, but through vacuuming pieces of foam and allowing them to move back in it’s original shape.

captured by a chair

An self operating system. Continuously opening and closing. When you are captured the only possibility is to wait until you are released. At first it might fright you but when you give in it can be a hugely intimate and comforting hug. Soft and strong that holds you on your place.
