The question the Artemide director asked himself ‘is there a need of an extra desk-light’, is easy to answer ‘no’. But as Artemides assortment of desk-lights is a poor offer of today’s design I would say yes. This company definitely needs a new light in their collection. They have to wake up and start to innovate instead of accepting their success with lights that look like they are from the fifty’s.

The demand in this question is that the origianal structure of the known anglepois lamp should be left alone to make a new start. With all our materials and scientific development of these days there must be a way to make a construction, a material that is flexible and at the same time stays in the shape it was put in.
So no metal construction with springs and complicated calculation. A self supportive structure. A almost organic sculpture grown from your desktop. Look at it as a plant that has flowers up and leaves hanging down the side of your desk. With the roots holding on to the structure of the tabletop.
The structure must be flexible but stiff in position. A shape based on the friction of small parts. Like a net, chicken wire or knitted structures. Like a grown organism that can be adjusted in it’s shape.
